Breckenridge '08 Receives Denominational Support In 2005, Adult Ministries recognized the need for more effective ministry to young adults, loosely defined as those 35 years of age and younger. The first step was to convene a Young Adult Consortium with lay and professional leaders involved in various aspects of ministry to young adults. Based on these meeting, Adult Ministries’ leaders began meeting with other headquarters personnel to network and develop ministry strategies. These meetings resulted in the Breckenridge concept and a proposal to the Board of General Superintendents. The General Superintendents have endorsed this event and pledged their support.
Earlier this summer, the Board of General Superintendents issued this statement: We endorse Breckenridge ’08 as an event that will begin to address this need for the Church of the Nazarene to engage young adults in stepping up to be leaders in their vocation and communities. We also support Adult Ministries as it seeks culturally-appropriate ways to expand this intent to other world areas. To demonstrate their support, Dr. Jesse Middendorf will be participating in Breckenridge. Other headquarters personnel supporting the event include Dr. Dan Copp, Clergy Development; Dr. Gary Hartke, NYI Executive Director; Dr. Woodie Stevens, Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International Director, (SDMI); Dr. Daniel Ketchum, Nazarene Missions International Executive Director (NMI), and Rev. Larry Morris, Adult Ministries Director.
