Dr. Stevens presented two questions: 1. Who is discipling you?
2. Who are you discipling?
A disciple is someone who is a follower of Jesus. This person is learning from the Master and the mission is to pass on to others what has been learned. A disciple also intentionally helps a friend follow Jesus more closely.
Dr. Stevens gave these principles for making disciples:
1. Start with prayer and fasting.
2. Use the authoritative Word of God.
3. Seek the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
4. Maintain accountability.
5. Use relational multiplication.
Linda’s Thoughts: Sometimes the concept of discipling someone can be a scary thought for those of us without degrees in Bible or theology. Mike Henderson in his book, Making Disciples One Conversation at a Time, debunks most of these fears. Discipling is sharing what you’re learned on your journey with others.
Relationships and discipleship are two key elements of Breckenridge ’08. We started a journey to strengthen relationships and make disciples. Let’s keep each other accountable for how we’re doing on the journey.
